Every time the same reader rates two books highly, we record a connection between those books. Rate one book you loved, and we can already point to what to read next — the same idea as "readers who loved this also loved that," built from real ratings instead of purchase history. If enough of your own ratings happen to overlap with another reader's, we go further and match you into a reading tribe of up to 25 people — but that's a bonus on top, not something you need before you get real recommendations.

Every book you rate highly gets checked against every other book in the catalogue for shared fans — readers who loved both. The stronger and more common that overlap, the stronger the connection we draw between the two books. This works from your very first rating; you don't need to find a matching reader first.
For every pair of books, we count how many readers rated both highly and how consistently. That gives each book-to-book connection a strength score, which is what drives your recommendations. Separately, we also compare your ratings directly against every other reader's — if enough of your books overlap with someone else's and you agree consistently, you get matched into a reading tribe of up to 25 people. A tribe is a bonus signal layered on top of the book connections, not a replacement for them.
We show you books connected to the ones you loved, ranked by how strong and well-evidenced each connection is. If you have a reading tribe, we blend in their ratings too — but the book connections alone are enough to get started. We also show you books flagged as likely mismatches for your taste — not bad books, just ones that didn't resonate with readers like you.
Explainable recommendations: We show you exactly why each book was recommended — which of your own ratings led us there, and how many other readers made the same connection.
Always improving: Rate more books → more connections → better recommendations.
Book Data Source: Most of our catalogue (titles, covers, descriptions, ISBNs) comes from Open Library, with the Google Books API as a fallback source.
Your Ratings: Stored securely in our database and used only to find book connections and match you with readers who share your taste. We never sell your data or share it with publishers.

That's totally normal! Recommendations are based on general taste patterns, not perfect alignment. As you rate more books, the connections behind your picks (and any reading tribe you're matched into) get stronger. You can also mark books as "Not Interested" to hide them.
Your recommendations update automatically right after you rate a book, and again overnight to pick up new book connections from across the whole catalogue. If you're matched into a reading tribe, it recalculates once you've added 10+ new ratings since the last check.
